Fishing The Tekapo & Twizel Canal System

After a long hard fight the fish appeared out of the depths violently shaking it’s head it certainly wasn’t done yet. With another explosive 50m run we were starting to wonder if this fish would ever give up. A few minutes later the fish started to tire and before too long it was in the net, what a buzz it had been. A 31.5lb rainbow trout lay at the bottom of the net everyone involved was “over the moon” what a rush it had been.

This is the kind of experience that anglers the world over travel to Twizel for to have a chance at catching one these world class trophy trout. If learning the techniques to catch these monsters sounds like you then get in touch and book a trip.

River Soft baiting

The big brown trout was spotted at the top of the run and with one quick cast it in hot persuit chasing the soft bait madly down the river. It finally took right under the rod tip and the fight was on, what a rush it was.

This fishery had been hammered by anglers using another popular technique and we had seen a number of refusals of what we cast at them. This is a common occurence in the South Island as most rivers that are typically only fished with a fly rod and with the advent of softbaiting it has certainly changed the game.

If mastering the art of back country softbaiting sounds like you then look no further.
